Alan Bibey is a highly acclaimed mandolinist, singer, songwriter, and bandleader in the bluegrass genre. Since emerging in the early 1980s, he has established himself as a significant figure in bluegrass music. Bibey was a founding member of several influential bands, including The New Quicksilver, IIIrd Tyme Out, BlueRidge, and Alan Bibey & Grasstowne.
Throughout his career, Bibey has received numerous accolades, including Mandolin Player of the Year multiple times (9) by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America (SPBGMA). Additionally, his work has earned him several International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) awards, including Instrumental Recording of the Year, Recorded Event of the Year, and 2-time Mandolin Player of the Year.
Bibey's talent has also been recognized by the Gibson Company, which produced an Alan Bibey signature mandolin in 2004.
Currently, Bibey performs as the mandolin player for the popular Balsam Range band and with his own band, Alan Bibey & Grasstowne, which continues to produce chart-topping bluegrass music. When not touring, he works on various music projects in his studio, Maggie’s Crib, located in Surfside Beach, South Carolina.
