A Christmas In The Country

By Charles Brady, 2024-10-31
A Christmas In The Country

When others may be upset about the timing and the push for sales and commercialism overshadowing the celebration of Christmas, Nashville Christian Country artist Kevin Kappler is all right with it when it comes to Christmas being pushed a little early.  In fact, Kevin had his Christmas decorations up in October. Why?  Kevin says the longer his decorations are up, the longer he can celebrate the birth of His Savior, the most important holiday of all.

Kevin absolutely loves Christmas!  His memories take him back to a little mobile home on Furnace Creek, when he was a young boy.  He even wrote a song about country living there.  Kevin’s original songs about his childhood and the simplicity of those days are relatable to everyone who has great memories of growing up and the warmth of Christmases past.

“I remember my dad having a reel to reel recorder he brought out every year with the Christmas decorations.  He played Christmas music throughout the holidays.  We watched my two favorite Christmas movies every year, ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ and ‘It’s a Wonderful Life.’  I still watch those with my family annually.  Anyone who knows me knows I love drinking McAllister’s tea, watching ‘COPS’, and collecting old vinyl Christmas LPs that remind me of my dad playing Christmas music,” shares Kevin.

One of Kevin’s most prized gifts will always be dear to his heart.  A man at Kevin’s church in Farmington, Missouri, had a sick father who lived in St. Louis.  Kevin made the one-hour trip to visit the man’s father in his illness and spent time with him.  Later, when the man passed away, he left a message to give Kevin his original Nat King Cole vinyl Christmas LP.  Though Kevin was not expecting anything for the visit, it meant so much that he was remembered with  such a special item.

You will enjoy this Christmas release by Kevin Kappler!

ADAM McINTOSH RELEASES NEW SINGLE, "FENCES"

By Charles Brady, 2024-10-27
ADAM McINTOSH RELEASES NEW SINGLE, "FENCES"

NASHVILLE, Tn. (October 25, 2024) – Gaining national recognition in the bluegrass community for his vocal harmonies and versatile guitar work as a member of Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, Adam McIntosh continues to explore his musical potential with the release of his debut solo album, Restless, earlier this year. Today, McIntosh and Billy Blue Records are proud to announce the release of his latest single from that album, "Fences."

In “Fences,” co-written by seasoned songwriter Mark "Brink" Brinkman and the late Dale Pyatt, McIntosh delivers his own distinctive take on bluegrass storytelling.

“’Fences’ is one of those songs that says so much in spite of using few words,” McIntosh explains. “It paints the picture of a man afraid to rebuild a relationship after experiencing heartbreak.  I like this song because it sends the message that redemption is possible.”

Jerry Salley, Creative Director of Billy Blue Records, adds, “In my opinion, great songs are the heart of any successful project. Adam's song selection for this album really impressed me, and "Fences" has quickly become one of my favorites.”

Salley continues, “As a close friend of both “Brink” and Dale Pyatt, I can tell you the songs they co-wrote over the years were always crafted very, very well. Songs from the heart. In "Fences," the singer ultimately learns that putting up fences is pointless. No matter what he does, he can’t stop loving her.”

A native of Ohio, Adam McIntosh began his musical journey with his family’s band, Dry Branch Fire Squad, before joining Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers as a lead vocalist and guitarist.

BOB MINNER RELEASES NEW SINGLE “RUBY JEAN” FT. JESSE SMATHERS AND ZACH ARNOLD

NASHVILLE, TN (Oct 11, 2024) – With a prolific career spanning decades, Bob Minner, an expert banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and resonator guitar player, has released his latest spirited bluegrass tune, “Ruby Jean.” The track, co-written with his wife, Virginia Minner, whom he fondly refers to as his “partner-in-rhyme” features the dynamic talents of Jesse Smathers and Zach Arnold. Dedicating 32 years, and counting, as the acoustic guitarist for Tim McGraw, and previously releasing four solo albums, Minner has earned his reputation as one of the most respected musicians and songwriters within the industry. As co-writer of the recent Authentic Unlimited hit, “Fall In Tennessee,” Minner, along with co-writer John Meador, won the IBMA Song of the Year at this year's IBMA Awards. As he uniquely blends bluegrass, country and folk, throughout his body of work, “Ruby Jean,” captures that unique blend of styles, infusing infectious melodies and heartfelt storytelling.

The idea for his latest track sparked over two years ago when Bob found himself repeatedly humming the melody. Soon after, Minner and his wife sitting on their front porch, quickly turned the melody into a full song encapsulating the classic tale of a good ole country boy trying to win his “country queen” back. The song, enduring the test of time, was an obvious choice as Minner began to select tracks for his upcoming Billy Blue Records album release set to debut early 2025.

“Writing ‘Ruby Jean’ with my wife and partner-in-rhyme, Virginia Minner, was our tip of the hat to those time-honored bluegrass songs where the man is begging his love to take him back and come home,” Bob Minner said. “It’s a fun, uptempo song that I asked my pal Jesse Smathers to sing on. Zach Arnold really compliments with his harmony work as well. We hope folks enjoy it as much as we did writing it, and we appreciate everyone’s support,” he continued.

Fans can expect more of this authentic, front-porch style of songwriting on the upcoming collection of original bluegrass tunes. You can follow along for the latest news at minnerguitar.com or on social media.

ABOUT BOB MINNER
Growing up in old-time string band music as well as bluegrass in Missouri, near St. Louis, Bob Minner’s lifelong love affair with music began at the tender age of 2 ½ when he first strummed his plastic guitar. Since then, his journey with music has been nothing short of extraordinary, spanning across the United States, Canada, Australia, Italy, and beyond. His musical passion has played a serendipitous role in bringing Bob and his wife Ginger together, shaping not only their personal life but also providing a foundation for raising a family. After traveling with their own band for a while, the Minner’s settled in Nashville which became the backdrop for Bob’s role as acoustic guitarist for country icon Tim McGraw, a position held for an impressive 32 years and counting.

A Million Memories

By Charles Brady, 2024-10-06
A Million Memories

NASHVILLE, TN. (Oct. 4, 2024) –  Award-winning and chart-topping duo Darin & Brooke Aldridge are excited to unveil the single and official music video for, “A Million Memories (A Song for Byron)” written by and featuring Vince Gill. The video, shot on location at The World Famous Station Inn and debuted on Bluegrass Situation, is a heartfelt tribute to the late Byron Berline, a beloved musician, mentor, and friend of Gill. Through their dynamic vocals, musicianship, and passionate storytelling, Darin & Brooke honor Berline’s legacy, capturing the essence of the profound influence Byron had on Vince and the music industry. The track was initially released on Darin & Brooke’s latest album, Talk of the Town (Billy Blue Records), which has soared to the top of multiple bluegrass charts, including Billboard, solidifying the duo’s place as a leading force in the genre.

The new video showcases the duo’s ability to evoke deep emotions through both their music and visuals. As No Depression perfectly noted in a recent album review, “Darin and Brooke Aldridge know just how to deliver a song to capture a full range of emotions.” The “A Million Memories (A Song for Byron)” video exemplifies this, pairing soul-stirring lyrics with imagery that stirs nostalgia as it reflects on cherished memories from the past.

Vince Gill expressed his gratitude for Darin & Brooke’s rendition of "A Million Memories (A Song for Byron)," saying, "I'm grateful to Darin and Brooke for recording this song I wrote about the world-class fiddle player and my lifelong friend, Byron Berline.  It's a song I wrote in tribute to our friendship back when I was first getting started playing as a teenage musician.  Darin and Brooke have become great friends of mine, and I'm honored that they recorded this song in tribute to Byron."

Darin & Brooke celebrate the release of the music video by stating, “It is one of our greatest joys to invest time in and encourage those who come behind us. Mentoring is one way to pay forward the gifts given to us by our own heroes and mentors and bring out the best in younger people in the same ways someone did for us. “A Million Memories (A Song for Byron),” dedicated to one of Vince Gill's closest mentors and dearest friends, Byron Berline, is extra-special to us, both for the meaning behind the song and for honor of singing  it with our special mentor and friend, Vince Hill. We will always treasure this opportunity to make “A Million Memories (A Song for Byron).”

The single is now available for all radio, and the music video is now available for viewing on YouTube following its debut on Bluegrass Situation. Fans can also catch Darin & Brooke Aldridge on their upcoming show dates, where they will be performing songs from their latest album, Talk of The Town, along with other fan favorites.

NASHVILLE, TENN (Sept. 6, 2024) – Bluegrass sensation and Billboard top charting artist Kristy Cox announces her new single to radio, “Front Porch of Paradise” and premiere of the official music video set to debut on Bluegrass Today. This announcement comes on the heels of her latest album, Let It Burn, which recently claimed the coveted #1 spot on the Billboard Charts. Listen HERE.

Set to hit radio airwaves, the track has already captured the attention of listeners for its classic bluegrass sound and rich storytelling, celebrating the beauty of life’s simple pleasures. Songwriters Marcy Each, Susan Anderegg, and Jerry Salley blend their collective talents to create a heartfelt tribute to home.

A&R/creative director of Billy Blue Records and co-writer, Jerry Salley stated, “Growing up in the country, I guess I always took for granted how blessed I was - until I moved away from home. The lush green fields, the beautiful rows of silver queen corn, half-runner green beans and big boy tomatoes we grew were all just natural to me and my family. We called it ‘God’s Country’. A few years ago, while I was in Iowa teaching a songwriting workshop at the Strawberry Jam Camp in Strawberry Point, Iowa, one of our attendees, Marcy Each,  had a great idea for a song that she called ‘Front Porch of Paradise’. She had started the song with another attendee there, Susan Anderegg, as they were paired up to co-write together at the workshop.”

He continued, “When they told me the title, I knew EXACTLY where they were coming from and I grabbed my guitar, as they were struggling a little on a melody. We worked on it together until we loved it. Luckily, when I pitched the song to Kristy for her most recent album, it also reminded her of her childhood growing up just outside of her hometown of Adelaide, South Australia. I’m so happy she loved it, because she sings the song with such beautiful conviction and has made it her own.”

Kristy Cox shared, “I loved ‘Front Porch of Paradise’ the first time I heard it. I grew up on the outskirts of Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia, and have always felt more at home in the country. This song is one of those that I feel I could have written about myself, it was so easy for me to relate to it. I love the melody and the lyrics and am so thankful that Jerry, Marcy, and Susan let me record their song.”

Be sure to watch the premier of the music video on Bluegrass Today.

New Release

By Charles Brady, 2024-09-08

NASHVILLE, TENN (Aug 23, 2024) – Following their chart-topping album, acclaimed bluegrass band Chosen Road has released their latest single, “I Wish I Had One More.” The track, written by esteemed songwriters Jimmy Yeary and Terry Herd features the talents of founding band members Jonathan Buckner and Zachary Alvis, along with group members Tyler Tobertson, Bradley Parsons and Chris Stockwell. The ballad captures the emotional tug one often carries when wishing they had more time with a loved one. Chosen Road’s artistic integrity and musicianship coupled with a relatable topic will surely hit home with listeners.

"I am so thrilled that we had the opportunity to record this song, " stated Jonathan Bucker of Chosen Road. “‘I Wish I Had One More,' written by Jimmy Yeary and Terry Herd, captivated me the moment I heard it. It's a song that stops you in your tracks and makes you reflect on the little moments in life that truly matter but are so easy to take for granted. The song tells the poignant story of a son who wishes for just one more day, or even one more moment, with his dad. However, it not only brought back memories of moments spent with my dad but also memories of cherished times with grandparents and other loved ones who are no longer with us.

“In today's fast-paced society, a reminder to slow down and savor life is essential. There will come a time for all of us when we can't pick up the phone and call a friend or loved one because they are gone. We only get one chance at life, and this song reminds me of how important it is to make the most of it with those who mean the most to us. Sometimes music has a way of saying things that we just can't get out otherwise, and this song definitely did that for me. I hope it does the same for everyone who hears it."

Jerry Salley, A&R/Creative Director for Thoroughbred Records chimes in: “Songs that move you. Songs that touch you. That’s what Chosen Road is all about, and 'I Wish I Had One More' is gonna hit you right in the heart. I lost my Dad many years ago, and the first time I heard their recording of this song, it really hit me hard.  It’s music with meaning. Do yourself a favor - turn it up and listen closely."

Catch Chosen Road on tour this fall before their highly anticipated, annual sold-out Appalachian Christmas Tour! This season, they’ll be bringing their unique blend of bluegrass and gospel to incredible events like Silver Dollar City, the Pennsylvania Gospel Music Festival, the Nothin’ Fancy Bluegrass Festival, and the Kentucky Wool Festival.

The crash claimed the lives of Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, their daughter Amber and son-in-law Nathan Kistler, their assistant Melodi Hodges, and the pilot Larry Haynie and his wife Melissa. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently investigating the accident. Daywind Music Group’s Ed Leonard states, “The Daywind Music Group family is devastated by the news of the passing of several members of the Nelons in a plane crash on Friday. We pray that God’s peace and love cover the surviving member, Autumn Nelon Streetman, and her husband, Jamie, along with the Clark, Hodges, Kistler, and Haynie families, following the loss of Kelly Nelon Clark, Jason Clark, Amber Nelon Kistler, Nathan Kistler, and their close friends Melodi Hodges, Larry Haynie, and Melissa Haynie, who traveled with them on the flight. Autumn Nelon Streetman, the youngest member of the Nelons and daughter of Kelly Nelon Clark and Jason Clark, and Autumn’s husband, Jamie Streetman, were not on the plane and arrived safely in Seattle. They were notified of the accident and brought to the hotel where fellow artists, including Bill and Gloria Gaither, gathered to support them. The community joined together to pray, sing, and offer their heartfelt condolences, pledging unwavering support during this difficult time.

Autumn and Jamie will return home to be with Kelly’s brother, Todd Nelon, and his wife, Rhonda, as they begin to navigate the challenging days ahead. The Nelon family, along with the Kistler, Haynie, and Hodges families, need your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for the prayers that have been extended already to me, my husband, Jamie, and our soon-to-be-born baby boy, as well as Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark. We appreciate your continued prayers, love, and support as we navigate the coming days.”

The GMA Hall of Fame group was set to release what is said to be their most important body of work on August 30th.
