By Charles Brady, 2024-09-08

NASHVILLE, Tn. (August 16, 2024) – Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers along with Billy Blue Records are pleased to announce the release of a new gospel song from the award-winning band. "One Breath Away," written by Bluegrass Hall of Fame member Paul Williams, is now available to radio programmers and on streaming services.

For nearly twenty years, Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers have consistently included gospel music in their recordings, a decision that has endeared them to fans and radio programmers alike. Their gospel tracks are among the most beloved by their audience, showcasing the band's commitment to preserving the rich, spiritual heritage of the genre. Citing two Gospel Recorded Performance awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association ("All Dressed Up" and "Sacred Memories"), a Gospel performance video with over three million views ("I Want To Know More About My Lord"), and a viral TikTok soundtrack ("Don't You Want To Go Home"), it's evident the band knows what resonates most with the hearts of their listeners.

"One Breath Away" is their latest release, penned by Bluegrass Hall of Fame member Paul Williams, and continues their tradition of delivering only the finest in Gospel music. "The Radio Ramblers were so fortunate to perform at the Bluegrass Hall of Fame in Owensboro, Kentucky, over Labor Day weekend in 2023," explains Mullins. "We hosted the first-ever Hall of Fame homecoming weekend and our guests were Del McCoury and Paul Williams. We were backstage preparing for a sound check with Paul, and he said 'I’ve written a new song for The Radio Ramblers.' He sang us 'One Breath Away' and we loved it! Of course we love Paul, just as everyone else in the bluegrass community does. He's such a special friend, blessing us with great music for over 70 years! Our arrangement features our quartet, guitar and mandolin. A few lines are even a quintet, with all five of us contributing to a great new song from one of our biggest influences."

DAYWIND MUSIC GROUP ISSUES STATEMENT ON THE DEVASTATING LOSS OF THE BELOVED MEMBERS OF THE NELON FAMILY AND FRIENDS IN FRIDAY’S PLANE CRASH

ALL SEVEN ABOARD THE PLANE PERISHED

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 27, 2024) One of America’s most cherished Gospel music families, The Nelons, was involved in a tragic plane crash on Friday afternoon. The family was en route to join the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska when the accident occurred. The crash claimed the lives of Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, their daughter Amber and son-in-law Nathan Kistler, their assistant Melodi Hodges, and the pilot Larry Haynie and his wife Melissa. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently investigating the accident. Daywind Music Group’s Ed Leonard states, “The Daywind Music Group family is devastated by the news of the passing of several members of the Nelons in a plane crash on Friday. We pray that God’s peace and love cover the surviving member, Autumn Nelon Streetman, and her husband, Jamie, along with the Clark, Hodges, Kistler, and Haynie families, following the loss of Kelly Nelon Clark, Jason Clark, Amber Nelon Kistler, Nathan Kistler, and their close friends Melodi Hodges, Larry Haynie, and Melissa Haynie, who traveled with them on the flight. In this time of unimaginable grief for these families, we know that our beloved artist and their friends are in the arms of Jesus Christ whom the Nelons spent their entire careers singing about as they spread His Gospel around the world. We stand on His promises today as we grieve the loss of our precious Daywind family members.”

Autumn Nelon Streetman, the youngest member of the Nelons and daughter of Kelly Nelon Clark and Jason Clark, and Autumn’s husband, Jamie Streetman, were not on the plane and arrived safely in Seattle. They were notified of the accident and brought to the hotel where fellow artists, including Bill and Gloria Gaither, gathered to support them. The community joined together to pray, sing, and offer their heartfelt condolences, pledging unwavering support during this difficult time.

Autumn and Jamie will return home to be with Kelly’s brother, Todd Nelon, and his wife, Rhonda, as they begin to navigate the challenging days ahead. The Nelon family, along with the Kistler, Haynie, and Hodges families, need your thoughts and prayers.

A Statement from Autumn Nelon Streetman:

“As many of you have heard by now, my father and mother, Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, along with my sister, Amber, and brother-in-law, Nathan, as well as our dear friends Melodi Hodges, Larry, and Melissa Haynie, were involved in a tragic plane crash on Friday. Thank you for the prayers that have been extended already to me, my husband, Jamie, and our soon-to-be-born baby boy, as well as Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark. We appreciate your continued prayers, love, and support as we navigate the coming days.”

The GMA Hall of Fame group was set to release what is said to be their most important body of work on August 30th.

NASHVILLE, TN – June 28, 2024 – Billy Blue Records is thrilled to announce the release of Dave Adkins' latest single, “She Put The Go In Gone.” This energetic track, paired with the Kentucky native’s powerful voice, leaves listeners grinning as he tells the tale of a woman who is more than finished with a worn-out relationship. Co-written by Adkins’ producer, Jerry Salley, and acclaimed country songwriter, Brent Baxter, the song brings a playful twist to the relatable, yet not-so-happy theme of “leaving.”

This new release builds on the success of Dave’s earlier hit, “What I’m For,” which dominated the Bluegrass Unlimited Singles Chart, maintaining a top 5 spot for several months. Both singles are featured on Dave’s January album release, also titled What I’m For.

"‘She Put The Go In Gone’ was the very first song I chose for my new project, and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do. I am grateful to have the chance to record such a well-written, hard-driving 'leaving' song," says Dave Adkins.

Jerry Salley, Billy Blue’s Creative Director, shares his enthusiasm: “Dave Adkins sings this song like it was written for him! As a writer and producer, I feel like his voice perfectly captures the storyline of this high-energy, ‘I’m-out-of-here-and-ain’t-comin’-back,’ scenario. The smoking track complements Dave’s big vocals for sure!”

Chorus:
She put the “go” in gone
The “so” in so long
The wind blowing through her pretty blonde hair
Saw the “good” in goodbye
And didn’t even cry
When she put the “done” in his last done-her-wrong
She put the “go” in gone

Climb in the passenger seat as Dave Adkins narrates the story of a woman driving away, seeking new beginnings as she “puts more past behind her with every mile she puts on her old Ford.”

DARIN & BROOKE ALDRIDGE BRING NEW LIFE TO “PRICE I PAY”

REMAKE OF CHRIS HILLMAN/BILL WILDES-PENNED DESERT ROSE BAND CLASSIC AND FEATURES LEGENDARY VIRTUOSO GUITARIST JOHN JORGENSON

NASHVILLE, TENN. (February 9, 2024) -- Acclaimed musical duo Darin and Brooke Aldridge are set to captivate audiences once again with their soulful rendition of Chris Hillman's (Desert Rose Band) classic, "Price I Pay” (aka "The Price I Pay"). Known for their exceptional vocal harmonies and instrumental expertise, the husband-and-wife duo bring a fresh and distinctive perspective to the song, which features the inimitable John Jorgenson (Desert Rose Band, Earl Scruggs, Bonnie Raitt, Elton John, Luciano Pavarotti, Bob Dylan, and many others) on guitar.

Chris Hillman shares his excitement about the rendition, “I absolutely love Darin and Brooke Aldridge’s wonderful version of my song ‘Price I Pay’. I am truly honored, as I know my co-writer, the late Bill Wildes would be, too. Excellent production by my pal, Mark Fain. This is a great record…..smokin’ red hot!”

John Jorgenson adds, “’Price I Pay’ holds a special spot in my musician’s heart, as it was used as a “barn-burning set-closer” for nearly every Desert Rose Band (DRB) concert from 1986-1991. It started with a short, mood-setting electric guitar intro that morphed over the years into a full-fledged feature. When Darin and Brooke invited me to recreate that part for their new acoustic version of the song, I immediately and emphatically said, “yes!”. Two challenges faced me then-first, to create a similar feeling guitar part including some of the original licks, but using an acoustic guitar without the delay effect I’d used on the DRB version, and, secondly, to complete the recording in a timely manner when I was going to be in Australia! Thankfully both things worked out, and I was able to record my guitar and the harmony vocals in my hotel room in Brisbane. What a treat it is to sing a third vocal part along with the special blend that Darin and Brooke are known for and to be part of such a successful re-imagining of Chris Hillman’s DRB classic. Special thanks to Mark Fain for his mixing skills. Nobody would ever know by listening that we were recording on separate continents!”

As the duo reimagined “Price I Pay,” Brooke and Darin infused the track with their signature style, creating a rendition that unmistakably stands out within the music landscape.

Darin and Brooke added, “We have loved ‘Price I Pay’ since we heard The Desert Rose Band’s cut from the late ‘80s. The lyrics really hit home, taking us back to our dating days. We were willing to pay the price for love and wanting to be with each other, even if sometimes it meant being away from each other for longer than we would’ve liked. These days, being married and sharing the same musical career, we no longer have to worry about that! What an honor to work on this song with the legendary John Jorgenson. Get your replay button ready. We hope ‘Price I Pay’ will be stuck in your head for a long time!”

Dave Adkins, the celebrated singer, songwriter, and guitarist, has carved an enduring career in the Bluegrass, Country, and Gospel music industries. And now, as the newest artist to join the Billy Blue Records family, he’s releasing his debut single with an old, familiar song performed in an exciting, barn-burning, brand-new way: “Bad Moon Rising.”

Taking a cue from Credence Clearwater Revival, Adkins tackled the old Rock and Roll hit by recording it at an incredible speed. 180 bpm, to be exact.

In his own words, “We took one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite old bands and got the idea from Curly Ray Cline's son, Timmy Cline. Timmy’s band recorded the song 30 years ago. We recorded it at 180 bpm and put the 'drive' in it. The musicians put everything they had into the track and blistered it! I could not be happier with the way it turned out. It’s a dream come true to have Jerry Salley and Billy Blue in my corner! Hope you all enjoy my favorite cut to date!"

In August 2023, Adkins embarked on an exciting new chapter by signing with Billy Blue Records, after becoming a prominent figure in the music industry. His remarkable, powerhouse vocal talents, paired with his exceptional songwriting abilities, have garnered him a slew of awards, nominations, and chart-topping hits.

Honing his craft on the stages of Dollywood as a teenager, Adkins’ talents were soon recognized with the prestigious title of Kentucky Colonel, an accolade recognizing exceptional contributions and service.

While his journey took diverse paths, including solo country shows and rock band performances, Adkins found his way back to his roots in 2010 with the formation of Dave Adkins & Republik Steele. Since then, there have been several reincarnations of his bluegrass bands, and these days he’s affectionately known simply as “Big” Dave Adkins.

In 2022, he was given a SPBGMA Male Vocalist of the Year nomination, a testament to his enduring impact on the genre.

His music continues to inspire, gaining him countless fans with his unwavering passion and extraordinary talent. Stay tuned for more of the musical brilliance of Dave Adkins.

The Story Behind The Song "Sharecropper And Son by Sherry White

My grandmother Rossie Lula Shaw (Thomas) was the daughter of a sharecropper. When her dad Robert Lee Shaw and older brother Charlie went to collect their well earned wages her dad was shot in the hip by the landowner and his son Charlie was shot in the leg by his wife.

After a night of unimaginable suffering and uncertainty the dawn finally broke. Robert Lee was put on a train bound for Georgia where he was hospitalized. His life was spared but the bullets remained in both men until the day they died.

The landowner finally settled the debt by giving the family two mules.

After my great grandfather Robert Lee Shaw passed away in Lake Butler the family moved to Fort Meade and then to Wauchula where they lived and farmed on Shaw Road. Charlie is buried beside his son on Murrell at New Hope Cemetery in Zolfo Springs, Florida.

Bio

By Charles Brady, 2019-10-08

Biography for Angela Seng

I was exposed to music at an early age. I quickly developed a love for music and singing. My mom sings and plays the piano and auto harp by ear. I also sing by ear however I cannot play an instrument or read music. I do have a natural ability for memorization. I use it to memorize the lyrics as well as the sound of the music. I have been singing since I was 5 years old. During those early years, I had a lot of living room concerts singing to my dolls using a hairbrush for a microphone. I loved to sing especially in the car. I knew every song that came on the radio.

Growing up, I was exposed to different genres of music. Every Saturday night my parents watched HEE HAW exposing me to the sounds of country music. Sunday’s we always went to church where I learned to love Gospel music. I will never forget my mom buying me my first 45 record. It was a pop song by The BEE GEES.

Music has always been a big part of my life. When I was 5 years old. I gave my heart to The Lord, after hearing The Song Masters share the gospel in song. There was a lady in that group named Deborah. I thought she had the most beautiful voice and I wanted to grow up and sing just like her. Years later I would get to meet her again and share my testimony, with the woman known as Deborah Talley of The Talley Trio.

When I was 12 years old, my dad was called to preach. It was at that time during my teenage years, I developed crippling stage fright. Although I continued to sing I battled with fear for more than 3 decades. My senior year in high school I received a Superior rating in the Kentucky Music Education Association’s Solo Competition. I also made All District Chorus but was still unable to conquer my fear.

Although I had no idea at the time, God was preparing me for this journey. He used my first job as a radio disc jockey to get me comfortable talking on the radio. God used video taped church services aired on local television stations to get me comfortable in front of the camera and church dramas to get me ready for the theatre stage. God used music ministers Bryan Stewart and Allen Case to mentor and encourage me. I also trained for over 2 years under vocal coach Mitzi Lynch. It has been a life long journey orchestrated by God that has led me to this place and time.

In 2012 and 2014 I recorded my first and second CD projects The Gift and The Gospel to the World. Both projects received local radio air play and on air interviews.

One year later in August of 2015 my dream of singing in Branson and recording with a live band in Nashville was born. It would take 2 years and a test of obedience before God connected me with Sherrie Brewster and The BGSSA allowing my dream of singing in Branson to come true in August 2017. It was during this same time I was recording my current project “Dream Big” at Harvest Studios in Huntington West Virginia. Although I never got to record in Nashville. God would provide guitarist Mark Stephens, who has played on The Grand Ole Opry to play on several songs on the Dream Big project. Later God would answer the Nashville part of my dream in a way I could have never imagined.

I was blessed to have Michael Rowsey, (Jason Crabb’s former drummer) play on the Dream Big project. It was an honor to have his father, John Darin Rowsey of “The Guardians” singing background vocals. I was also blessed to work with producer Dale Scragg former drummer for (Karen Peck and New River) on the Dream Big project.

October 2017 I attended the Empower Conference hosted by The Talley Trio. I was mentored on proper breathing, annunciation, caring for the voice, stage presence and aspects of the music business. Two weeks later on November 12, 2017 I was singing on stage at The Baldknobbers Theatre in Branson during a Sunday morning worship service hosted by Barbara Fairchild and her husband Roy Morris. Who have both become dear friends of my husband Wayne and I.

My musical journey continued in March and April of 2018 singing in Branson with the BGSSA and becoming a board member of The Kentucky Southern Gospel Music Singing Convention. Followed by my first performance in June 2018 in The Jammin For Jesus Concert at the Baldknobbers Theatre in Branson.

In October 2018 I was voted The Branson Gospel Singer Songwriter Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year. I was also a finalist in the category of Gospel Artist of the Year with the BGSSA.

In November 2018, I was voted in the top five in the category of Soloist of the Year with Calvary’s Way Gospel Music Promotions. Although I am very honored to receive these awards and titles. I have never been too caught up in numbers or awards. When I die all my earthly awards will be left behind. What I’ve done for Christ is all that is going to last. As far as crowds go, I would rather sing to one child. Who takes the message to heart than 10,000 who just want to be entertained.

My story would not be complete if I did not share about our doll ministry. We call Dolls on Mission. My mom and I take used Barbie dolls and restore them to like new condition and send them out with missionaries and mission teams around the world. Since the ministry began in 2016 our dolls have been delivered to Africa, Australia, Alabama Belize,Brazil, Costa Rico, Eastern Kentucky, East Tennessee, Honduras, Haiti, India, Kosovo, Mexico, The Philippines, and The Yucatán Peninsula.

My music is all about ministry and bringing God praise. I love to sing at senior care centers ministering to those suffering with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. The music gets through when nothing else does, for that short window of time. I get to see them smile often even singing along.

March 2019 I was blessed with the opportunity to sing in The Gary S. Paxton Tribute II held at The Hughes Brothers Theatre in Branson. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Gary S. Paxton. His music has impacted my life.

God has ordered my steps, orchestrating my journey for such a time as this. Although God has allowed my music to be heard around the world on Internet radio. Up until now I have never had the opportunity to chart a song. I’m thankful that God led me to Branson and The BGSSA. Where I met Sherrie Brewster. Who has been instrumental in making this dream come true.

In closing I would like to inspire those by my own story. Who are trapped by fear and stage fright to find freedom by placing your trust in Christ leaving fear at the foot of the cross and stepping out on faith sharing the Good News with boldness to the world.
