About Woodie Kitchen and Back Pew Prayer

Woodie Kitchen's first single as a new artist for the Nashville Christian Country label called "Faces" went straight to #1 as the most downloaded song by DJs and Programmers on the 4K radio stations reached by RadioMusicDJ.

Proving himself as an artist right out of the gate, this new release may surprise you even more.  "Faces" was an amazing ballad type song with a great message of inspiration on how we treat people as Christians.  "Back Pew Prayer," written by one of our favorite songwriters, Denise Bain, comes for her heart in a story about finding herself at a little country church and the twist of what awaited her on a back pew.  (Read the story behind the song below.)

Woodie immediately felt he could give the song the emotion it needed.  He could also relate to the story in the song.  We hope everyone will love this one just as much as his first radio single.  Please reply and let us know what your thoughts are about this second release by Woodie Kitchen.  Thank for listening and playing our music!

Denise Bain's Story Behind the Song

Denise Bain’s latest song to be released was one she wrote alone instead of with her usual co-writers.  It is very personal to her and was recorded by Nashville Christian Country’s newest artist, Woodie Kitchen.  He could relate to Denise’s words in “Back Pew Prayer” and could not wait to record it.

“Back Pew Prayer” is very special to me,” says Denise. “It took years for this song to culminate.  Every direction I tried to take it wasn’t the right one.  While going through a really difficult time, I took a drive out in the country.  I passed a little white country church.  I felt like I needed to back up and stop.  The church was closed, but the door was unlocked.  As I entered, it was so deteriorated, but I saw that the piano was still up front.  Of course, I headed straight for it.  There was broken glass on the floor and dilapidated wood everywhere.  I carefully made my way to the back again.  I walked to the back pew and sat down thinking I might sit there and pray.  When I looked at the back of the pew in front of me, there was my daddy’s name carved into the wood.”

Denise continues, “My daddy was still living so I went to ask him if he carved his name in the pew at that church.  He sheepishly grinned.  He told me the church had also been a school at that time.  Daddy would go early to start the old stove.  If he did, he got free lunch for doing that.   At some point, he had left his mark when he was there alone, waiting for school to start.  Later, when the song was finished, I also found out the history of the church and that my great -great granddaddy had pastored there.  What a wonderful thing to find out all because of a song!”

About Woodie Kitchen

Woodie Kitchen is a brand new artist for Nashville Christian Country label.  Making his home on the Outer Banks and Nags Head, North Carolina, where the beach gives peace for many people, Woodie has been a part of a Southern Gospel quartet, but as a soloist, his style lends itself more to the Christian Country genre.  On his first outing, He chose a song by talented Christian Country writer Gerald Reeder who has been a part of many charting songs by artists such as Kevin Kappler, Darin Kinser, Marty DeRoche, and others on the Nashville Christian Country label.  With another recording in the works, this will not be the last you hear of Woodie Kitchen.
