“The song’s overall feel comes across really strong — heartfelt, faith-centered, emotional, and very much in the wheelhouse of classic Christian Country storytelling. It has that timeless family-harmony sound that feels both traditional and fresh, which fits the Fortner Brothers perfectly.”
— Charles Brady, Radio Music Group
The Fortner Brothers’ newest release, “Without You I Haven’t Got a Prayer,” is a powerful reminder of just how dependent we are on God’s grace and guidance each and every day. Featuring the family’s signature harmonies, heartfelt delivery, and strong musical roots, the song blends classic Christian Country emotion with a fresh young energy that continues to connect with audiences across generations.
Originally recorded by the legendary group Midsouth in the 1980s, the Fortner Brothers fell in love with the song the very first time they heard it and quickly made it a fan favorite during their live concerts. Whether introducing the song to a brand-new audience or bringing back cherished memories for longtime Midsouth fans, the response has been overwhelming everywhere they perform it.
With the blessing of original writer Robby McGee and the members of Midsouth, the Fortner Brothers have now brought new life to this timeless message of faith, surrender, and dependence on Christ. “Without You I Haven’t Got a Prayer” is more than a remake — it’s a heartfelt testimony delivered by one of Christian Country music’s fastest-rising young groups.
About Fortner Brothers
Layne, 23, lead, steel guitars, and just about anything else with strings on it, with triplets; Kennon, drums, Konner, bass, and Kyle, acoustic guitar and mandolin, all, 21, make up the Fortner Brothers. With their dad Phillip adding keyboards and their mom Kayla booking, managing, working the merch table, running sound, and putting on any other hat she is asked to wear, the family rocketed to the top of Christian Country Charts in 2023 with their first release, "Jesus, 'Cause I Want To." Since then, every new release has made the top ten on radio, streaming, and in music magazines. Nominations for awards are too many to name, but they have been Grammy nominees in both 2025 and 2026.
The boys grew up from a very young age singing harmony as only family members can and picking up instruments to form their own band. Playing first in school performances and churches in their local area, word quickly spread, and they began widening their circle of churches, festivals, and more in their home state of Alabama near Fort Payne, to festivals, fairs, Cowboy Churches, and theaters in more states than they could have ever imagined.
From their first concert, the Fortner Brothers have set their goal to take their faith in Christ to the world. With their songs streaming to many other countries and opportunities seeming to come at every turn to widen their reach, they are seeing their goal become a reality.
Meeting the Fortner family is like knowing them all your life, They will bless your heart with their rich heritage of music faith, and kindness.
Their latest release is a remake of a Midsouth song from the '80s they fell in love with the minute they heard it and started doing at concerts. Their audiences were either introduced to it for the first time and loved it, or were huge Midsouth fans and so happy. The writer, Robby McGee of Midsouth, and the rest of the group told them to release it with their blessing. We hope your listeners have the same response.
